HEH – Details: Hanseatic Energy Hub as part of the LNG value chain
A land-based LNG terminal is a high-performance logistics hub for unloading LNG tankers, regasification, feeding into the gas grid, and liquefied storage in tanks. It also enables the onward transport of liquefied natural gas by rail tank wagons and bunker ships. There is currently no land-based terminal for liquefied natural gas in Germany, which is why the construction of such a terminal represents a significant milestone. Hanseatic Energy Hub is the first privately financed project of its kind in Germany.
Hanseatic Energy Hub is designed as a future‑flexible terminal: from the very first development phase, in addition to LNG it will be possible to import, process and distribute green energy carriers such as bio‑LNG and synthetic natural gas (SNG). Later, in a second phase of expansion, the import of hydrogen-based energy carriers such as ammonia can also be accommodated.
To ensure that all processes within the value chain run smoothly and to schedule, all disciplines must work together seamlessly. Operations is responsible for loading and discharging LNG tankers and organises the onward transport of gas by pipeline, truck, rail and LNG bunker vessels. The operations team works around the clock in three shifts, seven days a week, and is supported by an experienced maintenance team that ensures smooth and efficient technical operations.
A modern service ethos characterises terminal operations: customer satisfaction, flexibility and tailored solutions are central. At the same time, the highest safety standards are a top priority. Hanseatic Energy Hub has all the departments of a modern company, such as safety, customer service, finance, human resources, training and development.
Consistent implementation and monitoring of safety regulations, together with regular training ensure that all processes are efficient, safe and customer-focused. In this way, the terminal makes an important contribution to a reliable energy supply and to strengthening security of supply in Germany.
