Press release from the State Trade Inspectorate Lüneburg

Trade Inspectorate grants immission control permit for a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Stade

In a decision dated 22 December 2023, the Lüneburg State Trade Inspectorate has granted Hanseatic Energy Hub GmbH permission to construct and operate a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) and connecting pipeline systems for storing and regasifying liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the plant site in Stade.

After a comprehensive and thorough review of the application documents, as well as the objections and comments submitted by public bodies, nature conservation and environmental organisations and private individuals, the experts concluded that the requested permit could be granted.

The FSRU is a vessel built and operated in accordance with the international regulations of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), and will be moored at a designated berth for an extended period of time. The floating FSRU will be allowed to operate for a maximum of 15 years from the date of its approval, but will cease operations before then once the land-based Stade LNG terminal, which was approved on 1 November 2023, becomes operational.
